All my bags are packed
Im ready to go
Im standin here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breakin
Its early morn
The taxis waitin
Hes blowin his horn

Lyrics from 'Leaving On a Jet Plane' by John Denver

Home after a looooong time. Feels good. I could do with a break from the work, stress, traffic, routine .... the whole shindig called life in Bangalore.

Headlines Today

End of nuclear ice age - The Telegraph

India moves out of N-doghouse - The Times of India

They're referring to the Indo-US Nuclear Cooperation Bill which got passed today.

Sure hope things will be as rosy as they're making it sound .... although I like the sound of this .... "Critics have expressed concern regarding the Bill's impact on our non-proliferation policy and clearly Iran, Pakistan and North Korea are looking for clues about what this deal means for them and their nuclear programmes. Let them understand the message - if you want to be treated like India, be like India," - Gary Ackerman, Democratic Representative.

Jail chalo!

Shibu Soren got sentenced to life imprisonment (2 days ago) & today, Navjot Sidhu was awarded 3 years in the slammer. Incidentally, both sentences pertain to murder cases.

I can almost hear "neta ab jail chale ...." (sung to the tune of "chappa chappa charkha chale ....") being played in the background.

Cricket update

from NDTV.com

Ban on Shoaib, Asif revoked

The ban on Pakistani fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif was lifted on Tuesday afternoon.
A tribunal had banned Shoaib for two years and Asif for one year for testing positive for nandrolone.
The appeals were heard by a three-man panel, including retired judge Ibrahim, former Test player Hasib Ahsan and Dr Danish Zaheer.
Both men have insisted they did not knowingly take the banned drug.

I don't know what to say! Why go through the whole enquiry charade in the 1st place when this was supposed to be the end result?

2007 Cayenne

The Hindi film industry's favourite SUV's 2007 version is out.

Still looks odd, even though it's an improvement over the previous one.

Santosh has finally managed to get a job in Bangalore. Samir ('The Raut-less one') has already hopped companies once. Shail has moved in with Sam (the other Sameer) in Pune.

Had a talk with Deepanjan on Saturday. He seems to be on the same boat as me.

20 20

India played their 1st 20 20 match yesterday against SA.

I'd been a sceptic regarding this format ever since it came out some years back & the fact that it wasn't played here didn't help either. But yesterday's match was an eye-opener.

It's super-fast, something or the other keeps happening & you can't guess the result until the very end. Plus, it's short & sweet & gives both teams an equal shot at winning. Perhaps, that's why India won.

Anyway, a win is a win is a win. Hope team India's fortunes change from here on.
