Amelioration?

Sitting at the window overlooking Dolly's quarter this morning, saw her kids Ruby & Shalini leaving for school, dressed in smart uniforms. Dolly herself was dressed in a T shirt & pyjamas. Both the girls said, "Bye Mummy" before leaving & Dolly replied with "Bye beta". Given the fact that her family possesses among other things, a moped, a TV, a VCD player, a mobile (till some days ago), an LPG connection, a pet Pomeranian & that her husband is a teetotaller with a decent job, who's got no problems with paying his 2 daughters' school fees; who'd ever guess that Dolly is a domestic servant living in a 1 room servant's quarter?

Amelioration? You bet! A sign that India's economic progress is finally touching the lives of the have-nots? Sure hope so.
