Soothing songs

Next two days, Himesh Reshammiya and Kunal Ganjawala would take backseat. Devotional Bhojpuri songs would be the order of the day.

About 12 different VCDs on Chhat festivities have been released this year. Albums of Kalpana Patwari, Shraddha Sinha and Anuradha Paudwal are topping the charts. Songs of Guddu Rangeela, Manoj Tiwari and Vijay Bihari are also in demand.

Unlike yesteryears, this time devotees are more interested in Chhat Songs on digital discs than cassettes. The shops in Daily Market and on the Main Road in Ranchi are flooded with discs of Chhat songs.

Audio parlour owners are sitting pretty with the spurt in their business.

“Sales increase tremendously during this time every year. Since the past two days we have sold about 60-70 CDs every day,” Rahul Singh, one of the officials at Sangeet Centre, one of the leading Jamshedpur-based
music shop.

“There is high demand for Chhat music and sales figures are inspiring,” said Prakash Mahto, the owner of Rhythm Guest House, a music store in Bistupur.
