Weekend TV
Finally got to watch 2 movies I'd been meaning to see for some time now .... 'The Ring 2' & 'Black'.
'The Ring' had been striking in its treatment & it was one horror movie I had liked in a long time. So I was naturally looking forward to seeing what Samara was upto in the 2nd installment. Turns out that the wait wasn't quite worth it. Part 2 repeats the same old gimmicks seen in the 1st part .... there's nothing new & the novelty present in part 1 is totally exhausted this time. Almost a total let-down.
As for Black, what can I say but .... my God, what a movie! Any description of the movie, the cast, their performances, the direction & the locations can never be considered complete without the use of superlatives. My respect for Rani Mukherjee's talent has gone up a few notches after this one. If only the film had been original (it's a lift of 'The Miracle Worker'), I could have said the same about hindi films.
Saw 'The MTV Immies 2005' on Saturday. A host of artistes dishing out a range of performances, but what stood out in the end was the Rahat Fateh Ali Khan & Euphoria combine belting out 'Jiya Dhadak Dhadak' & other Euphoria hits. Palash Sen is one of the best India's got today & the fact that he's such a livewire on stage serves to increase his appeal that much more.
Talking of appeal, Sajid Khan came up with this .... 'I've got great sex appeal, whenever I see somebody sexy, I appeal fo sex'. Love this guy.
Also performing were Jal with the inevitable 'Wo Lamhay' & 'Aadat'. Come to think of it, the way Pakistani artistes have influenced hindi film music this year, has been unlike ever before. The only sore points with the Immies were that Strings didn't perform (they were present & did give out an award, but didn't play) & of course the idiotic 'item' numbers by Perizaad & Bipasha. The rest was pretty watchable stuff.
